Days Of Yore project!

Hello everyone!

I haven’t gathered myself into a fully written post, but I just wanted to share that the grant that I have received from the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County, MD has completed, as of this month.
I called this project, “Days Of Yore” : Montgomery Country, MD.

Because of this grant, I have drawn 12 sketches of historical places within Montgomery County, MD.  I did one a month for 12 months and I posted them all here on a blog.

I plan on finding places to exhibit these images.  The original intention, however, is to place these images on notecards.  I am writing up my final report and will post what I can here.  I plan to add them here, as well, in my portfolio.

Enjoy taking a look and I’ll see ya’ll around!  If you’d like to find out where and when I will be exhibiting, feel free to send me a direct message here!

Please check out the images and comment, if you feel so inclined!

Social Media workshop

Went to a workshop given by C.Fox Communications, LLC and sponsored by the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County.  I am responsible for the social media for a non-profit arts organization, The John E. Marlow Guitar Series.  I wanted to keep myself up-to-date.  This is my version of a glowing review.  I couldn’t have made a better choice.

C.Fox Communications gave a very sharp and professional 2-hour presentation, complete with two breakout sessions.  I found them very knowledgeable (I learned a great deal, even though I have worked with some of the social media already) and very approachable.  I think they would be a great company with whom to work.  I know that I would have confidence in recommending them.

Some key things that I learned:

  • You can customize your Facebook landing page, using PageModo.com.
  • Instead of enticing people to come to your site, go to where they are – naturally.
  • Engage them in conversation.  Build a relationship.  And the rest is up to you!
  • What to do if you don’t have so much extra time?  Come up with plan on how you want to inform your community and form partnerships with folks who may have more time.

I am glad that the Arts & Humanities Council of Moco is so proactive in keeping the non-profit marketing people up-to-date.  I recognized a couple of folks in the chairs with me. I also sat next to a fellow member of WIFV (Women In Film & Video) who runs Docs In Progress.  My world just keeps getting smaller and smaller.

As a give-away, they gave the presentation of the day on little flash-drives to keep.  Very clever!

Days Of Yore

Have you seen Days Of Yore:Montgomery County recently?  I just posted my 6th black and white sketch for the project!  The 20th of each month, I post a new historical sketch from my local area.

What will I do with these images?  Put them on 4×6 souvenir note-cards, for sale, of course!

Take a look and comment!  If in the area, have you visited any of these?  What were your impressions?  I’d love to hear what you think!

The Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County, MD awarded me a grant for this project.
