About Me

Beauty As Is
While taking courses in elementary teacher training, I re-discovered a focused interest I had in the Earth Sciences, such as Geology and Botany.  With these interests reawakened, I explore natural subjects: sometimes artistically; sometimes scientifically.

How Do I Do It: With simple watercolors, pen & ink wash or my digital camera, I portray nature very much As Is.

Inspiration: Geology and Horticulture and Botany professors, my uncle Jim Rose, who can name just about any tree, and my folks, Tim and Susan, for taking me on hikes in Wyoming as a child, surrounding me in Nature.

Seeking Balance With A Twist
I often do my figure sketches (called gestures) live, fast, and in the moment, hoping to capture as much of the spirit of the movement as possible. When I draw figures or characters at rest, I push the pose to find energy through a twist for balance. I am inspired by people in action, in particular, because all people seek balance in every way our bodies move, even in something simple as walking down the street.

How Do I Do It: With my marker or brush & watercolor or ink & water wash, I draw from LIFE as much as possible.

Inspiration: I’ve had many teachers – one in particular I’d like to mention is Glenn Vilppu.  His style of teaching gesture figure drawing allows many animators to draw intelligently.  How he describes his relationship with art matched my own aspirations – I had finally found someone who “spoke my language”!  Thank you, Mr. Vilppu!

If interested, my artwork is available for purchase in my Shop.
